Pfc Julius Verlinde landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was seriously wounded in action on 15 July 1944.
His father and mother were Belgian emigrants, his father was born in Wingene and his mother in Ooigem. His father emigrated to the USA on 17 March 1911 on board the Lusitania. Later his wife and five children followed.
