Pvt Thaddeus Gnida worked at the post office before he enlisted in May 1943. He was sent overseas in June 1944.

He was reported lightly wounded in action on 8 September 1944. After recovering, he rejoined his unit. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.

He was killed during the crossing of the Rur river.
