Cadet Company Color Guard, Regimental Staff, Tech Sergeant (Source Sphinx 1941)Royall finished Florence High School in 1938 and was a graduate of The Citadel having majored in Political Science. He participated in several activities including International Relations Club, Sons of the American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, Sphinx Staff (photographic editor senior year), Gold Stars (senior year), Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. He was the 1942 recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.
Lieutenant Royall was stationed at Camp Breckinridge, Ky., Fort Huachua, Ariz., and Camp Van Dorn, Miss.
During his stay in the States he successfully completed two courses at Fort Benning, Ga.
1st Lt William M. Royall first buried at Temporary American Military Cemetery Margraten, Netherlands Block A, Row 12, Grave 286.
