T/Sgt Edward J. Roach attended high school for four years and was a clerk at the Walter Kidde Construction Company before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in Newark, New Jersey on 14 May 1942.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Failly, France.
