More information

Pfc Richard L. Forster graduated from Selinsgrove High School and attended Susquehanna University of one year. He had been employed by the Rand Corporation.
He was hard nosed at eveything he did. He excelled in football, basketball and track.
He was one of the best running backs to play for Selinsgrove. During his three years of football, Selinsgrove had its only undefeated seasons in history. Many people in town said Dick was the best pool shooter they had ever seen. Through all this toughness, people said that he was a very gentle and kind person.

Dick was married to Bertha Burkey on 31 January 1937. They had four children of which one passed away six months after birth. But on 5 January 1943, his wife Bertha died, leaving him with three small children. The four of them lived with Bertha's parents until Grandma Burkey developed tuberculosis and they had to leave. The family lived with Dick's parents until he left for service.

He received his draft notice on 19 February 1944 and to everyone's surprise, he did not fight the induction note.

Pfc Forster enlisted in Cumberland, Pennsylvania on 27 March 1944 and trained at Camp Blanding, Florida. He went overseas on 23 September 1944.
