Pvt Elvin J. Matt worked in a factory for transportation equipment before he enlisted in Seattle, Washington on 12 July 1944.


According to a newspaper article in the Independent Record of 15 April 1945, Pvt Matt was killed when a truck, in which he was a passenger, hit a land mine and exploded.

He is remembered on the 4th Cavalry WWII Memorial at Fort Meade, Meade County, South Dakota.
