More information

Mike Swab Jr. was a miner before he enlisted in Altoona, Pennsylvania on 7 January 1943.

The night of 16 to 17 November 1944, he spent in a fox hole with his buddy George S. Morris. On the early morning of 17 November, his company moved forward again in the open field towards Schleiden. George S. Morris wrote about the last moments of Mike Swab: "The next morning we moved from this place and went across a field. My friend was some distance to the rear from me. I heard a loud explosion. He stepped on a land mine. I tried to see how he was doing, but I had to move forward."
