More information
Pvt Edward J. Konefal enlisted on 23 June 1943 in Newark, New Jersey. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and was seriously wounded in action on 17 June 1944, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time. He rejoined his unit on 16 February 1945.
Because his grave at Margraten was being well taken care of by Mrs. Paula Van De Weijer, who corresponded with the family, his parents decided not to bring their son's body home. On the bottom picture, Mrs. Van De Weijer visits the grave in 1947.
