Pfc Raymond H. Grummer graduated from Fayette City High School with the class of 1941 and was employed at the Pittsburgh Steel Company before he enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 25 February 1942. He already had participated in the African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns and in the invasion on D-Day.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Molenhoek, the Netherlands on 22 September 1944.
