Herbert Poe graduated from John C. Fremont High School. He was a commercial artist and he was looking forward to a career with Disney before the war.He enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 5 March 1941.
Lt Poe and three of his crew were wounded when the house in which they bivouacked was hit by an enemy artillery shell.
The crewmen were T/5 Aubrey M. Culledge, Pfc Lloyd P. Larson and Pfc Stanford J. Pleskus. They were evacuated. Lt. Herbert Poe died a day later.
