T/5 Francis D. Wolf attended Washington Clay High School.He enlisted at Camp Perry, Lacarne, Ohio on 14 October 1942. He was sent overseas in November 1943.
During an action, in the vicinity of Herzogenrath and Bardenberg, C Company attacked German positions with five tanks. In this action, five pillboxes were assaulted and many prisoners taken, an enemy artillery post was overran, one 150 mm gun, one enemy Mark IV tank and two anti-tank guns were knocked out. At a certain moment an enemy tank came in from the left and knocked out tank C-16. All the crew but the gunner were killed: Sgt. Earle E. Lafferty, Cpl. John J Gorel, T/5 Francis D. Wolf and Pvt. Alvin R. Standerfer. Only Pvt Jones E. Harris got out unharmed.
