1st Lt Robert E. Kingsley attended college and was an architect.

He joined the Regular Army in Syracuse, New York on 31 October 1941.

Statement from S/Sgt Russell H. Orwig:
"I was flying as Tail Gunner in the number three position, lower box of the first eighteen when I saw the number two ship 42-96100 receive a burst of flak that blew the fabric off its elevator. When the plane pulled up and banked out of formation I saw that Both engines were on fire. The bombs were then dropped and two men bailed out of the rear of the plane. After a short delay I saw a third man leave from the rear, and three chutes opened. The plane was in a steep glide and covered in flames when I last saw it. I didn’t follow it to the ground but was told later that it crashed and exploded north of the target area."
