Pfc Rudolph T. Swarowsky attended high school for one year before he volunteered for the Army of the United States in San Francisco, California on 2 July 1942.
His father emigrated from Austria. His biological mother was Nellie Boswell, but she abandoned the family when he was only 11 months old.
