Pfc Leonard S. Rozwalka joined the army in November 1944 and was trained at Camp Swift, Texas. His division was shipped to Europe on 19 February 1945 and arrived 2 March in Le Havre, France. They were stationed at Camp Lucky Strike until they got their marching-orders for Germany on 27 March. They crossed the German border near Aachen on 28 March. Leonard was killed in action during a nightly infantry patrol with three boats crossing the river Rhine in the night of Easter sunday 1 April, early morning 2 April. After receiving heavy resistance, he got severely wounded and drowned. He was missing in action (MIA) for a couple of days. Leonard was first buried in Ittenbach, Germany before he got his final resting place in Margraten, The Netherlands.
