Pfc Beryl H. Steele worked in a nursery before he volunteered for the Army of the United States at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 14 July 1942. He was sent overseas in April 1944.

He was reported Missing in Action in the vicinity of Pont-à-Mousson during the crossing of the Moselle River.
