More information

S/Sgt attended college for one year and was a welder before he enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 3 July 1942.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously for his actions on the day of his death. The citation cited: "In a coordinated attack on the enemy, S/Sgt Saks assumed command of the platoon in which he served when the platoon leader and sergeant became casualties. Despite the intense enemy fire, he reorganized the squads, continuing the attack to successfully lead the men in seizing the objective of the platoon".
