1st Lt Robert T. Penlington Tredyffrin Easttown High School in Berwyn before he joined the Regular Army in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 18 April 1941. He was commissioned on 17 December 1942.

He was reported missing in action in the vicinity of Pont-à-Mousson during the crossing of the Moselle River.
