2nd Lt Charles D. Welde attended college for 2 years and was employed with the US Federal Housing Authority in Washington, DC.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in Columbus, Ohio on 25 September 1942.

The airplane and three other of the formation were attacked by enemy fighters. It crashed at Nijetrijne. Six crew members were killed. They were initially buried at the General Cemetery of Wolvega on 18 August 1944.
