William Jaeger attended high school for four years and was a metal worker.

He joined the Air Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve in New York city, New York on 17 July 1942.

The airplane received a direct hit by flak over the target. The left wing came off, and the airplane was seen to burst into flames.

All ten crew members were killed. They were initially buried at the POW cemetery of Achmer airbase.
