Pvt Charles W. Askern graduated Sandusky High School and was a craneman before he enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana on 29 April 1944.He was reported seriously wounded in action and was evacuated to a hospital on 25 November. At that time his unit was engaged in the fighting southeast of Faulquemont, France.
