Sgt Russell Harris graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Southern Methodist University before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Dallas, Texas on 29 September 1942. He was sent overseas in March 1944.

The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland.
