Sgt William L. Balentine graduated from Greenville High School in 1943.

He enlisted at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on 11 June 1943 and was sent overseas in December 1944.

The plane was shot down by flak.

Sgt Baletine didni't leave the airplane and was initially buried at the cemetery of Coudekerque, France.

He was later reburied at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Champigneul, France.

He is remembered at the Springwood Cemetery in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.
