Statement from S/Sgt Burns (32326942):
"I saw B-24 believed to be Captain Skaggs with #4 Engine on fire - pull up and peel off into a dive immediately after attack by 13 to 16 enemy fighters."

He was first buried on 13 April 1944 on the Russin Cemetery of Hannover-Stroehen, Germany.
