2nd Lt Joseph C. Jr. Perkins graduated from Lincoln High School.

He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Cleveland, Ohio on 27 January 1942.
The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters.

Six crew members survived and were taken prisoner. Four men were killed.

2nd Lt Perkins was hit by a 20mm shell that killed him instantly.
