More information
Pvt Dale R. Rostad joined his unit from Replacement Depot on 16 October 1944.The night before Dale died, he had a chance to speak with his brother Loran because Loran was an Army telephone operator. He told him about his struggle with pain related to a surgery for appendicitis when he was a boy. But he was still fighting well. A short while later Loran got the bad news of his sacrifice.
Dale and his wife Margaret were married in Seattle and moved to Roseau, MN, shortly thereafter. At the time of Dale's dead, Margaret was working for the war effort in Grand Forks, ND. She moved back home to her parents and later married again. Dale's memory remained a part of her life.
