T/5 Charles J. Pepper worked as a farm hand before he enlisted on 4 February 1943 in Peoria, Illinois.During a German aerial attack on a mess hall in the area of the Julia Mine, seventeen servicemen and an employee of the mine were killed.
T/5 Pepper is commemorated on a remembrance plaque in Eygelshoven, the Netherlands.
He is remembered at the cemetery of Calhourn County, illinois.
