Pfc James W. Brummett was employed at the Amherst Coal Company.He enlisted in Huntington, West Virginia on 21 April 1943.
He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and was lightly wounded in action on 17 June 1944. He was promoted to Pfc on 1 November 1944.
