Pfc Harold R. Shelden attended the county schools and the Douglas high school before he enlisted in Douglas, Wyoming on 24 February 1941, with enlistment in the Regular Army as a Private-Cavalry having previously enlisted in the Wyoming National Guard of Troop K. He went overseas January 1944.

He was buried temporary at the American War Cemetery Molenhoek, the Netherlands on 22 September 1944, A-5-92.
