He enlisted at Camp Wolters, Texas on 5 April 1944.

His name when born was Alton Wayne Foster. His nickname was likely "Jack". Apparently, when he reached adulthood, Jack is the name he went by. Interestingly, he named his first son Alton Wayne Foster.
