Sgt Russel J. Yoder was married to Ruth Vera Martin in 1937.

He enlisted in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 28 January 1944. He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 15 August 1944 and was promoted to Private First Class on 4 September 1944 and to Sergeant on 1 November 1944.

He was lightly wounded in action on 14 September 1944 and was injured a second time on 6 October 1944.
