Pvt George Mangan graduated from St. John's High School and was employed by the J.C. Penny Store in Pittston. He also served as assistant chief of the fire department in his hometown.He enlisted on 22 July 1943 at Wilkes Barres, Pennsylvania. He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 9 October 1944.
