Sgt Edward G. Minton Sr. awas a driver for the United Parcel Service before he enlisted in San Francisco, California on 20 August 1943.

On 11 September 1944, the aircraft was shot down by German fighter planes. After coming under intense attack, the bomber exploded in mid-air and crashed near the village of Kovářská, Czech Republic.

Five crew members were killed in the crash. S/Sgt. Minton was one of the few who managed to survive the explosion and bail out, but he was severely injured and immediately taken prisoner. He died in a German Hospital. The exact location is not known.
