S/Sgt Corwin E. Alspach worked for the Goodyear Company before he enlisted in Phoenix, Arizona on 5 January 1943.A/C #591 was flying right wing on A/C #095. When #095 was hit by ground rocket, it collided with A/C #591. The nose of the A/C was sheared off, but it appeared to remain under control and peeled out of formation.
S/Sgt Alspach was killed in the crash and was subsequently buried by the Germans. For a year his family were unaware of this fact. His remains were then exhumed and he was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of St. André, France.
Subsequently he was reburied at Lorraine Cemetery, next to his brother Thomas.
