Pvt Garfield G. Dikeman worked on a farm before he enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas on 15 March 1944.He was reported missing in action on 3 October. At that time, his company was surrounded by enemy troops in Sivry. They were holding positions under heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire.
