Pvt Philip Dapaldo attended high school for one year and worked in a machine shop before he enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 16 December 1943.

He was reported lightly wounded in action on the same day of his death and evacuated to a hospital. At that moment G Company was holding positions on a hill in the vicinity of Han-sur-Nied, France.
