Pfc George Slama graduated from Havelock High School. He attended the University of Nebraska for two years.He joined the Regular Army in Fort Crook, Nebraska on 20 August 1941. He was selected for the ASTP program and sent to the University of Chicago. When this program was disbanded, he was transferred to the infantry and sent overseas in October 1944.
