Pvt George W. Wilkerson enlisted in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on 22 April 1944'Co B furnished 12 men as boatcrewman to the 406 Inf for patrolling action across the Rhine River. The patrols were fired upon by two machine guns just as they reached the far shore, thereby making it impossible to complete the mission. To date only three of the Engineer crewmen have returned.'
