Sgt Edward T. Mahoney enlisted on 12 January 1940.He was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia with the 29th Infantry at one time and later selected as one of twelve men to open Camp Butner, North Carolina. Prior to being sent to the port of embarkation he was stationed at Camp Pickett, Virginia. Sgt Mahoney accepted a demotion in order to volunteer for overseas service.
On the photo he is shown with his daughter Julia Kathleen in August 1944, when he last visited home.
