Biography

His granddaughter Grace Ann Rose wrote the following: My grandfather was just 25 years old when he was killed and left behind a young wife with four babies and 1 on the way (he had just been home on furlough in January and was killed in February).. such heart ache in my moms family losing him. But my grandmother was a strong faithful woman and never dated again leaving her heart open to her John as she referred to him. She visited his grave a few decades ago but her grief was too much. All his 5 children also have visited. When my grandfather passed, his son John W. was 6 yrs old, my mom Graceanne was 4 yrs old, Robert was 3, Kathleen was 2 and my nana was pregnant with Hughie. She had very little but went to work and raised 5 wonderful children with help from her mom who was also a young widow. Two of the most wonderful woman I've ever known. My nana passed in 2000 and my only solace was she was finally with my grandfather and whole again.
