Pfc Monell R. Hawkins attended Blossom High School and was employed at Camp Maxey as a truck driver and worked in a war industry plant near Houston.

He joined his unit from a replacement depot on 30 November 1944. He was promoted to Private First Class on 16 January 1945 and was seriously wounded in action on 23 February 1945, when he was just two days in action and died the next day.
