S/Sgt Ignatius J. Ricciardi enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on 30 September 1943. He was seriously wounded in action on 17 July 1944. After recovering he returned to active duty on 29 October 1944. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time.All four sons served during the war, either in the Army or the Navy.
