More information

Pvt Robert Dixon was a farmer before he enlisted at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 20 November 1942.

His battery was occupying postions near Schönberg, Sankt-Vith on 17 December 1944, when they were overrun by German infantry. Pvt Dixon was reported as having died of wounds after having been carried to a log hut, used as a kitchen. When the surviving members of the unit were taken prisoner, the remains of Pvt Dixon were last seen lying in this hut.

In July-August 1951 an investigation was conducted in the vicinity of Herresbach, Amel and Schönberg, Sankt-Vith to recover his remains, without any result. Therefore, according to official procedures, he was declared dead at the official date of 18 December 1945.
