More information

T/Sgt Dominick Delmonico enlisted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana on 14 July 1943.

He was a graduate of Woodward High School and employed by Antonio Palazzolo & Co. before entering the Army. He was killed in France during an accident shortly after the war's end.

T/Sgt Delmonico was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry in the campaign in Southern France. He was credited for killing five Germans, wounding four and capturing two when his platoon was cut off from his company.

Sgt Delminico was wounded three times in his 20 months overseas.

He was killed in France when the truck on which he was a passenger overturned. The truck was one of a long convoy of troops returning to their base near Kassel, Germany, from a day of festivities in Besonco, France, in celebration of the first anniversary of the town's capture by the 3rd Division.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Varois, France.

His brother, T/5 Frank A. Delmonaco, is buried next to him. Their last names are pronounced slightly differently.
