S/Sgt George Will graduated from Collinwood High School where he was on the varsity swim team. He attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State), majoring in chemistry and worked as a chemist at Cleveland Graphite Bronze Company.

He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 14 July 1942.
