Charles W. Freschauf graduated from David City High School in 1935 and from Creighton University in 1941..He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States at Fort Crook, Nebraska on 16 December 1941. He received his wings at Lubbock Field Texas and was commission as a second lieutenant in August, 1942. He landed in England on 1 October 1942.
The airplane was shot down by enemy fighters. The entire crew of ten men was killed.
