S/Sgt Theusen received his basic training at Jefferson Barracks in Missouri, Camp Swift in Texas and at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. His twin brother, Gordon C. served in Italy.

S/Sgt George E. Thuesen's death was caused by shell fragments and artillery fire when he was attempting to assist two men of his platoon who were missing during an attack near the flooded Moselle river in the vicinity of Bertrange, France.

He is remembered at the Fredsville Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Grundy County, Iowa.
