More information

Pvt Charles R. Kelly was employed Ford Company.

He enlisted in May 1944 and was sent overseas in November 1944.

Pvt Kelly was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in Luxembourg on 16 January 1945. The citation reads in part: "On 16 January 1945, Pfc Kelly, a mortar gunner, observed that two of his comrades had been wounded by sniper fire and were calling for aid from the exposed position where they had fallen. Pfc Kelly, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, crossed the open terrain through intense enemy fire to the two men. Finding one had died from his wounds, Pfc Kelly was rendering air to the other when he was mortally wounded by sniper fire."
