Stanley entered the service on 3 February 1942 at Fort Hayes Columbus, Ohio. He completed more than two and a half years of military duty and had been overseas for several months.He had two brothers and four sisters who died in infancy.
His brother Joseph served for five years in the Asiatic theater.
