More information

Pfc Anthony J. Jarosz worked on a farm before he enlisted in Syracuse, New York on 5 January 1944. He was sent overseas in July 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Limey, France.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal posthumously, which was presented to his mother. The citation reads in part: When forward elements of our forces were pinned down by enemy automatic and sniper fire, Pfc Jarosz, an assistant gunner, set up his mortar to blast snipers out. Running low on ammunition, Pfc Jarosz, with total disregard for his personal safety, voluntarily crawled over 200 yards of exposed terrain to the ammunition depot, making numerous trips until there was sufficient ammunition for his mortar, which he continued to fire until mortally wounded by sniper fire.
