Pfc Harry C. Hensley Jr. was employed at the Johnson City Tire & Recapping Company before he enlisted at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on 4 September 1944.Capt E.D. Hollister, Jr, adjutant of the 398th Infantry, wrote the folliwng to his parents: "On 5 April 1945, in the vicinity of Helbronn, Germany, a platoon of which your son was a member, was surrounded by a superior enemy force. Shortly afterward, the company lost all contact with the platoon. It would seem your son was killed by an artillery shell explosion which landed near the position he was occupying."
